Off

We are very excited about the Alexa’s Hope #GivetoLive Challenge, and we hope you are, too. If you want to participate, here is everything you need to know about getting involved and helping us achieve the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ of the “most people to sign up as organ donors – 8 hours.”

 PLEDGE TODAY!

We are looking for at least 5,000 people to pledge their support between now and November 23 in an effort to register more than 4,135 organ, eye and tissue donors, and break a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD®  at the same time. This is an official attempt and a  judge will be on site to determine the outcome.

When?

The official event is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where?

In order to register and be counted toward the 4,136+ total, you must sign up in person at one of the official event locations.  The GUINNESS WORLD RECORD official attempt requires that the entire challenge take place within a half mile radius of our main location, the FargoDome.  Those attending the Bison vs. University of South Dakota game that day are all encouraged to sign up. For those not attending the football game, we have two other locations – the Fargo Air Museum and the Fargo Coliseum.

Who?

Anyone can attend the event, and all are welcome! However, there are qualifications you must meet in order to register that day and be included in our final number. Do you qualify?

  • Anyone 18 and older, regardless of age or health, may participate.
  • If you are already a registered organ donor but are not registered in the state of North Dakota, you may sign up and be counted toward the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD attempt.
  • If you are already a registered organ donor in North Dakota, you can help by finding someone who is not and urging them to participate.

*You must show you Driver’s License or state-issued ID when you register.

We recommend printing the organ donor registration form and filling it out prior to coming to the event to speed up the process. Download it online to help us process over 8 registrations per minute to reach our goal.  The online form will be available two weeks prior to the event.

Why?

Alexa’s Hope is dedicated to the following:

  • Creating a culture in which registering as an organ and tissue donor is the norm and not the exception;
  • Increasing the national donor designation rate from 43% to 75%; and
  • Removing obstacles that hinder organ donation and transplantation.

Currently, there are over 120,000 people on the national transplant waiting list. Eighteen people die every day awaiting the gift of life.  Alexa died awaiting a double lung transplant in 2004. She was number one on the list in our region, but the call never came.

The Alexa’s Hope #GivetoLive Challenge hopes to help raise awareness and register more organ, eye and tissue donors to help move their mission forward.

How?

We would not be able to carry out this event without a generous Breakthrough Idea Challenge grant of $40,000 from the Dakota Medical Foundation.

We would also like to thank our event partners including: LifeSource, Sanford Health, Essentia Health, Onsharp, Wildfire Youth Venture, the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties and the many friends of Alexa’s Hope.

Whether or not we are successful in signing up 4,136 organ donors in 8 hours or not, we will register more donors and save lives. It’s a win-win for all involved!

Will you be there on November 23? Help us spread the word, even if you are already a registered donor in North Dakota and pledge your participation today.
